Yoga poses
Yoga poses are designed with the ultimate goal of harmonizing
body and mind. The benefits of these poses vary; some help build strength
and muscle tone, while others focus on balance and control. In order
to hold the desired pose, one must use both body and mind to concentrate
on how to hold the body and keep the position intact.
Yoga poses each have a specific name and instruction for proper performance.
The names have both English and Indian translations, and refer to what
the body might resemble if the pose is done properly. Not only does
the pose include exact placement of torso and limbs, it dictates slow,
steady breathing and balance of weight and muscles.
Yoga poses are called asanas. They can be learned from various sources
– online, in books, or from instructors in yoga classes. With
clear instructions and examples in person or in photographs, they are
easily learned and imitated.
